Elizaveta Podgornaia is an artist based between Russia, Germany and Austria. Her hybrid practice bridges painting and photography, exploring the relationship between color, material and perception.
Background
Born in Russia and trained in Germany, Elizaveta studied fine arts in Essen before developing a practice that moves between painting and photography. Her education across two cultures shaped a sensibility for surface, texture and the boundaries between disciplines. Over the past decade her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across Germany and Austria.
Process
Each work begins with the construction of a physical arrangement — fabric, folds and pigment built up in the studio — which is then photographed. The final image sits between painting and photograph: a record of a made object, flattened and abstracted. This back-and-forth between building and capturing is central to how color and material become the subject rather than the tool.
